YK Past Blast: Old City Hall

NWT Archives/Northwest Territories. Dept. of Information fonds/G-1979-023: 2143

We’re not sure if YK had parking meters in the old days, but if it did, this is where you would have gone to pay your ticket. This old city hall, located at the corner of 50th Street and 51st Avenue (home currently to the parkade entrance of the Centre Square complex) was built under the mayorship of Gordon Allen in 1954/55.

Prior to that, city hall was located in the firehall, and the modern-day building opened Aug. 30, 1975.
