4Y/GLOW Program Coordinator – Youth Program

Job Description

Responsible for day-to-day operations of the 4Y Program (youth support program)

 

Start date: as soon as possible

Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30 - 5:00. Flexible schedule available based on needs of program

Compensation: $36.06/hr - based on experience

Under the direction and supervision of the Executive Director, the 4Y Program Coordinator will assist in planning, organizing, and implementing the GLOW program and transition into managing the 4Y Program. The 4Y Program Coordinator will always work cooperatively and effectively with all FFCNWT staff and volunteers, and will take initiative to implement current programming, and create new programming that meets the unique needs of the program participants. The 4Y Program Manager must have basic computer skills, good phone etiquette, and strong interpersonal skills.

GLOW Program: The program focuses on life skills development, cultural activities, and being physically active. In this position, you will be in charge of supporting the GLOW staff team, to ensure they have all of the resources necessary to run fun and educational programming to the participating youth. You will be working with the Culture Coordinator in August to support various cultural activities throughout Yellowknife. The GLOW program will address life skills including:

 

  • career preparation
  • education
  • health and nutrition
  • self-care
  • money management
  • risk prevention
  • healthy relationships
  • positive mental health
  • housing and home management
  • addiction education

 

4Y Program: The 4Y Program is designed to meet the needs of children and youth in Yellowknife between the ages of 11 and 29, who have a disability caused by prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) and for those with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). The program is trauma-informed and facilitated by a ‘navigator’. It includes arts, music, culture, life skills, and physical education components. Youth are involved in one-to-one sessions every week, and regularly join in group sessions with other program participants. The 4Y Program Manager will supervise all 4Y Program facilitators, and ensure they are maintaining records, establishing boundaries, developing meaningful relationships, and supporting the youth they are connected to in all areas of need.

Responsibilities

 

Main duties

  • Select and register youths to 4Y or GLOW programs.
  • Understand and review youth history and background through possible and valid resources such as interviewing the youth or any other reliable available resources
  • Evaluate and Assess youth relevant skills, strengths, weaknesses, and needs to develop a programming plan that provides the required support and assistance.
  • Program coordinator could refer youths to other social services such as Justice Program or other partner organizations such as Home Base organization depends on the youth’s needs.
  • Create and implement programming for youths that focuses on life skills development, cultural activities, and being physically active.
  • Evaluate programming effectiveness through meeting youths and assess their progress.
  • Report recommendations and feedback to the executive director.
  • Maintain contact with other social service agencies and health care providers involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients' overall progress
  • Plan for youth aid development projects, organize and administer related fund and policies.
  • Educate and develop awareness of FFCNWT programs and initiatives.
  • May maintain program statistics for purposes of evaluation and research
  • Supervise 4Y navigators, GLOW leaders, and volunteers.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Relevant college education for working with children and youth or a support service setting
  • 1 – 3 years experience in youth programming an asset
  • 1-3 years experience in social service setting
  • 1 – 3 years in a supervisory position
  • Experience working with children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, and other physical and behavioural abilities
  • Volunteering in social setting is an asset
  • Clear Criminal Record with vulnerable sector check
  • Good verbal communications skills, especially in conflict resolution, human resource management (mediation and related training an asset)
  • Ability to coordinate staff, and maintain a safe camp atmosphere under various pressures
  • Knowledge and respect for northern cultures
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time
  • Experience working in or with the child welfare system in some capacity an asset
  • Up to date first aid certification an asset
  • Class 4 or 5 license an asset
  • Language of work : English
