Your role

As someone who supports our programming activities, you are adept at understanding client needs and designing and implementing creative solutions. You take interest in anticipating future trends and strive to keep us at the forefront of broadcast technology – all to ensure we can deliver our programming to our audiences how, when and where they want it.

CBC Yellowknife is looking for a bright and energetic Broadcast Technician (Television) to join our team.

The successful candidate will ensure the proper operation of technical equipment used in the gathering and presentation video and audio for use on television and digital mediums.  The candidate will also ensure the proper operating condition of equipment by making the necessary checks and adjustments according to standard procedures, as well as contribute ideas and make recommendations to overcome problems or achieve desired results.
Please note: this position may require the incumbent to work shift work and occasional weekends.
Key Tasks:
  • Assisting with transferring material to various storage mediums and electronically transfer to and from other CBC locations.
  • Taking audio and video feeds from various locations via satellite.
  • Clipping items and sending them to on-air presentation systems.
  • Ingesting material from journalists and videographers into the Avid Interplay system.
  • Monitoring and resolving issues affecting our various file transfer systems.

Qualifications

You possess:
  • A community college graduate in Applied Television Arts or relevant alternative program, or equivalent industry experience.
  • A minimum of one year's directly related experience working as a TV technician in the broadcast industry.
  • Ability to deal with a live environment with tight time constraints and related stresses while maintaining a professional and respectful attitude is required.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple competing priorities.
  • The ability to work as a team member or independently and the willingness to work various shift patterns, overtime or weekends.
  • Good communication skills and are a strong & enthusiastic team player. You take initiative and have the ability to be productive in individual and team settings.
  • Knowledge of Avid Assist, Access and iNews.
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
