Description
Camp Leader Job Description Camp leaders are responsible for engaging with campers and implementing Camp programming. The Camp Leaders will organize and implement five 7-day long sessions of summer camp. This is an over night camp and during the sessions the shifts are 7 days on and 4 days off. The Camp Leaders will always work cooperatively and effectively with all FFC-NWT staff, volunteers and guests.
Responsibilities
The Camp Leaders duties include but are not limited to: Pre-Camp ● Participate in all staff training ● Assist in session scheduling and planning ● prepping the camp site for the start of season During Camp ● Engage with campers at all times; be open, communicative, and supportive ● Ensure campers are supervised at all times ● Lead activities and daily tasks with enthusiasm and energy ● Assist any elders, workshop facilitators or guests with their programming ● Assisting and supporting the campers as needed ● Practice discipline techniques discussed in training, redirect campers to Camp Manager as needed ● Help out with additional tasks as needed – there is no maintenance or clean up crew ● Follow the program plan, and contribute enthusiasm, creativity, flexibility,ingenuity, and input ● Respect all equipment and facilities, and ensures proper care, use, and maintenance of them ● One-on-one supervision as necessary, time outs etc. ● Help prepare/set-up/supervise games and activities Post Camp ● Preparing an accurate and organized inventory of craft, sport, first aid and dry-good supplies. ● Participate in end of season de-brief and evaluation
Qualifications
Qualifications ● Excellent communication skills and ability to motivate and work with others ● Ability to create and implement programming for children ranging in age from 7 – 18 ● Experience working with children with physical, mental health and neurological diversity such as Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD), Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Anxiety and Trauma. ● Summer camp experience an asset ● Enthusiasm and desire to work with children and make a positive impact on their life ● Knowledge of northern cultures ● Wilderness training or experience ● Valid, Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate ● Mental Health First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Trauma Sensitivity and other trainings and courses an asset ● Valid Drivers Licence, Class 4 preferred ● Experience operating On-The-Land equipment (eg ATV’s, water pumps, generators ext.) ● NLS certification (life guarding) an asset ● Clear Criminal Record w/ Vulnerable Sector Check
