Under the direction and supervision of the Camp Director, the Camp Manager will organize, and manage the campers and the camp staff who will implement the Camp Connections program. The sessions are designed to promote life skills that empower and motivate children and youth through on the land activities, traditional teachings, sports competitions, leadership games, team building games, as well as arts and crafts activities. The Camp Manager supervises all staff and volunteers, and maintains working relationship with all Elders, guests and workshop facilitators who come to the site. The Camp Manager is ultimately responsible for the safety of everyone at camp, as well as their emotional and social wellbeing.

The Camp Manager must always work cooperatively and effectively with the Camp Director, Camp Leaders, Camp Cook, and Volunteers
- Prepares age appropriate camp programming with the Camp Director for five 7-day camps which each include a canoe trip.
- Develops a multi-phase program with the Camp Director to include cultural activities, water sports, land games, wilderness activities, indoor activities, and ‘rainy-day-routines’
- Recruit volunteers and workshop facilitators
- Seek any additional local donations
- Ensure adequate supplies and equipment are bought or reserved for camp programming.
- Coordination of camper flights and transportation to and from camp.
- Revise camp policies and procedures, ensure risk management plans, emergency and contingency plans are in place
- Prepare and implement staff training: includes coordinating guests and preparing all materials, as well as overseeing/implementing the training
- Work with camp staff to ensure camp facilities are ready to host campers. Includes: painting, repairs, cleaning, ensuring adequate supplies, and program materials, set up in an organized fashion
- Responsible for ensuring camp sessions are ran as planned, using resources efficiently and effectively.
- flexibility in changing plans when the weather turns or workshops are canceled or rescheduled.
- Accountable for the conduct of campers and staff, which may include effective discipline measures.
- Complete a daily log for each day including activities, incidents, challenges and successes.
- provide support and leadership to staff and campers.
- On duty/call 24/7 while camp sessions are running.
- Ensures all necessary safety precautions are taken while at the camp. This includes abiding by the regulations of Department of Health and Social Services and insurance standards
- Ensures all medical needs of children are met. This includes keeping medicine in a locked box and giving out medications at the right time
- Hold weekly staff meetings with camp leaders, and daily check in’s with Camp Director
- Utilizes to the fullest extent the specific skills of camp leaders and selected volunteers
- Ensures staff are taking appropriate measures to maintain good health and well-being
- Ensures proper care, use, and maintenance of all equipment
- Maintain full inventory of all camp resources
- Ensure all camper evaluations, and staff evaluations are completed on a weekly basis. Ensure incident reports are being documented in an appropriate manner.
- Ensure adequate supplies are available at camp, may include trips to town to pick up water or other supplies if they run out before the end of the session
- Organize and provide transportation to campers who fly in after the start of the session or need to fly out before the end of a session.
- Mid session review: conduct staff evaluations mid way through summer, review evaluations with Executive Director/President
- Manage camp take down, includes loading all camp materials and transporting back to town for storage
- Inventory remaining camp materials and belongings
- Camp clean up
- Write final staff evaluations
- Write a final report for Camp Connections
- Develop camp photo’s
- Arrange photo’s in album for camp memorabilia and mail out personal photo’s to campers along with letter
- Create camp slideshow for funders
The Camp Manager should feel confident working under minimum supervision. The employee’s assignments, objectives, and sequence of steps are prescribed although there is considerable opportunity for creativity when planning programs and special events. The Camp Manager is held personally responsible for the completion of tasks.
Responsibility for Equipment
The Camp Manager will be responsible for the safe operation and control of inventory for a variety of equipment. Any equipment replacement or repair needs will be immediately reported to the Camp Director.
The Camp Manager will work closely with the Camp Director in most aspects of this position. The Camp Manager is also required to establish a working relationship with foster parents, social workers, foster children, camp funders, guests, and other camp partners.
Considerable physical effort will be required to prepare the camp, run sessions, and take down camp. Facilities require ongoing maintenance, and facilitating activities without electricity or running water becomes physically demanding at times. The site is large and you will be required to traverse the site through out the day as you supervise and support the staff and campers
The Camp Manager is required to monitor the camp site throughout the duration of the camp.
The Camp Manager is to act as a role model to both the campers and the staff in all aspects of camp operation.
The Camp Manager is to fill in for any staff that may not be able to work until another staff member is hired.

- 2 – 5 years experience in a camp atmosphere
- 2 - 5 years experience in managing staff through a supervisory role (ideally in a camp atmosphere)
- Experience working with children and youth with varying physical, neurological, and mental health abilities including fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD), Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD), PTST (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Good verbal communications skills, especially in conflict resolution, human resource management (mediation and related training an asset)
- Ability to coordinate staff, and maintain a safe camp atmosphere under various pressures.
- Knowledge and respect for northern cultures
- Ability to multi task and mange time
- Experience in child welfare an asset
- Up-to-date first aid certification
- NSL (lifeGuarding) certification an asset
- Valid Class 5 Drivers license required, Class 4 Drivers licence preferred
