Responsibilities

The Housing Coordinator is part of a team in advancing the development of a Housing Strategy, called Our Dene Land, Our Dene Home: Yellowknives Dene First Nation Housing Strategy.  This Strategy seeks to develop culturally-appropriate housing initiatives for YKDFN’s communities of Ndilo and Dettah to understand the current need for housing. The ultimate goal of the project is to create a new Housing Strategy for YKDFN based on the outcomes of the research. In particular, this position will have a significant role in the governance work underway as part of the Housing Strategy in preparation for their eventual leadership role in the Gonè Gokǫ̀ Society.

Under the direct supervision of the Director, Public Works and Infrastructure, the Housing Coordinator will be integral to the success of the YKDFN Housing Strategy project. The Housing Coordinator will work with the project team to advance the project within the community. The Coordinator will engage community members and service providers in ensuring that participation is high and that the project is community-driven, and well understood within the community.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position will have completed a Diploma or Certification in Business Administration or Office Administration, coupled with two (2) years relevant experience; and/or an equivalent combination of education and training with four (4) years work-related experience will be considered.

A valid Class 5 driver’s license and private vehicle is required.  The ability to speak a Dene language and previous experience in working with First Nations organizations are all definite assets.
