Description

Duties

This position is responsible for supporting the provision of policy development and technical services as it relates to community /regional land use planning, the administration of lands and provision of technical services. This will include; undertaking research, preparing maps, graphics, studies, data collection and the formulation of land plans, policy and procedures and the administration of land within the Yellowknives Dene Traditional Territory. The incumbent will support public consultations, internal working groups, undertake studies and prepare reports required to evaluate Indigenous knowledge and information related to various, environmental, social, and economic aspects of the management and administration of land.

Qualifications

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

  • Education requirements include a post-secondary education in Geography, Land Use Planning, Cartography, Environmental Studies, or Natural Resources supplemented with direct training / course work and / or a certificate / diploma in Geographic Information Systems.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners, Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technicians, or Canadian Association of Geomatics are assets; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or related course work with four (4) years work experience.

A valid Class 5 driver’s license and private vehicle is required.  The ability to speak a Dene language, knowledge and/or experience with cultural history and customs of the Wiìliìdeh people and previous experience working with First Nations organizations are all definite assets.
