About the role

We are looking for a Maintenance Helper responsible for steam cleaning equipment and assisting mechanics with maintenance activities in a safe, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective manner to ensure that equipment to be worked on is clean and that mechanics receive the assistance they require to maximize equipment availability.

Reporting to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor and working 12 hours per day shift on a 3 weeks on / 3 weeks off rotational schedule in the interim (alternating night shift and day shift) with the potential that this changes to a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation in the future, once the COVID-19 pandemic normalizes. You will be responsible for:

  • Bring equipment into and out of the maintenance facility
  • Steam clean equipment on the way into the maintenance facility according to established procedures and within DDMI safety and environmental guidelines
  • Keep work areas clean and free of safety hazards on a continuous basis
  • Remove garbage from the shop
  • Assist mechanics as requested
  • Provide verbal reports about steam cleaning, housekeeping, safety, and environmental issues to the Mobile Maintenance Supervisor on a daily basis to keep him/her informed

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Literacy and numeracy skills required for the position
  • Grade 12 high school or general equivalency diploma is an asset
  • One year of related maintenance helper experience is preferred
  • Strong planning, organizational, management and communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently in a results-oriented environment

Northern residency and experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the North, are assets. Hiring priority will be given to qualified applicants who are beneficiaries of the DDMI Participation Agreement Groups and to qualified applicants residing in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Territories.
