Responsibilities
Under the authority of the YKDFN Government Chiefs and Council and under the direct supervision of the Director, Community Wellness, the Mental Health Counsellor is responsible in providing education, health promotion and prevention activities to the community, family and individual in the area of basic health and well-being issues, specifically in the areas of addictions and family violence. In addition, the incumbent is a first point of contact with clients in providing identification/screening and aftercare/follow-up and facilitating personal development to clients.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position will have completed a Diploma in Social Sciences, coupled with two (2) years of relevant work experience in a scope of practice or experience solely restricted to addictions, mental health or family violence; and/or Certificate in Addictions Counselling with three (3) years front line experience as a Social Worker; or an equivalent combination of education, and/or training with a minimum of four (4) years of direct related work experience will be considered. Must be a role model in the community and have five years sobriety.
A valid Class 5 driver’s license and private vehicle is required as this full-time position will involve commuting between the communities of Dettah, Ndilo and the City of Yellowknife.
