Description

LOCATED IN YELLOWKNIFE. The Program Coordinator (PC) is responsible for developing and coordinating all programs at the Sidedoor Resource Centre (currently located above the Post Office on Franklin Ave).  The PC will work under the supervision of the Executive Director and in partnership with the Housing and Tenancy Coordinator and the Communities Building Youth Futures (CBYF) Project Coordinator.

Responsibilities

DUTIES

  • Develop and coordinate the implementation of programs at the Resource Centre (RC) for youth ages 12-24
  • Ensure the daily operation of the program
  • Intervene and practice good conflict resolution strategies with individuals and in group settings
  • Ensure the programs and services are effective in meeting the needs of all youth, while adhere to the organizational objectives
  • Develop and maintain an awareness of other services and programs within the community and refer youth where appropriate
  • Ensure implementation of policies and procedures, and develop others if necessary
  • Ensure the RC is a safe space for all that attend including 2SLGBTQQIPAA+ individuals
  • Ensure that the RC is a clean, organized space at the end of each day and is deep cleaned on a regular basis
  • Follow any guidelines that are set out in the Exposure Plan for the organization, including screening of all that enter the space
  • Educate all that attend the RC on the proper guidelines of the COVID-19 Exposure Plan
  • Ensure the cultural and spiritual beliefs of all youth are supported
  • Any other duties as identified by your supervisor

SUPERVISION

  • Supervise youth in common areas to ensure that boundaries are adhered to at all times
  • Provide supervision that is appropriate to the youth’s developmental age
  • Supervise 2 Peer Support Workers to ensure that they are following all the appropriate guidelines

STAFF MANAGEMENT

  • Manage program staff and volunteers including training, guidance, supervision, facilitation of meetings, development of work plans, as well as conducting performance evaluations
  • Ensure the management of the staff schedule
  • Advise and give support to staff when resolving issues
  • Ensure the staff and volunteers create a non-judgmental environment for program delivery
  • Ensure leadership by encouraging communication, participation and motivation while fostering a positive environment
  • Ensure staff coverage and appropriate ratios for safe program delivery

ADMINISTRATION

  • Participate in working within a budget for the RC
  • Monitor and manage the program expenditures with consultation for supervisor
  • Participate in applications for funding in cooperation with supervisor
  • Submit statistics and program reports when requested
  • Ensure a safe filing system for confidential documents 
  • Identify and report trends and priorities needed in the youth community
  • Determine the gaps in service delivery and recommend strategies for improvement

CRISIS MANAGEMENT

  •  Recognize potential emergency situations and intervene
  •  Analyze situations accurately to mitigate risks
  • Develop strategies to deal with potentially dangerous situations; i.e., suicidal ideations, aggressive behavior
  • Ensure safety risks are identified and the appropriate intervention is applied
  •  Complete safety plans with youth where appropriate

TEAMWORK

  • Actively support the mission, vision and goals of Sidedoor
  • Determine with the team, all objectives of the program
  • Work collaboratively with other staff within the organization
  • Actively participate in team meetings, professional development activities, staff retreat and other Centre activities
  • Work in partnership with other community organizations
  • Work in close partnership with the Housing and Tenancy Coordinator and the Communities Building Youth Futures (CBYF) Project Coordinator

Qualifications

Background

  • Some education such as a college or university degree in social work, youth work, organization management, program development
  • 2+ years previous work experience in which the duties and tasks were similar (managing a team of staff, supervising staff and youth, developing programming, working with other program coordinators to improve programming)
  • 19 years of age or older
  • Speak and write in English

 

Personal Skills, Knowledge Experience

  • Punctual and reliable
  • Strong social and emotional skills
  • Strong communication skills necessary to confidently communicate with youth, coworkers, supervisors, people in the community, professional people, law enforcement, government workers, court workers, education workers, etc.
  • Experiencing working with youth, youth who are experiencing homelessness, youth who have experienced varying levels of trauma, and youth with a disability(ies)
  • An understanding of homelessness in Canada, homelessness interventions, and factors that lead to homelessness
  • An understanding of racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, and various forms of discrimination
  • An understanding of the history of Northwest Territories including impacts of colonization and residential schools
  • Prioritize cultural safety and cultural humility
  • Strong computer skills, the ability to read and write, and navigate software including Microsoft Word and Google Drive
  • Experience writing case notes
  • Experience coordinating case conferences
  • Ability to collaborate well with others
  • Ability to respond with empathy
  • Confidence in crisis and emergency situations
  • Organizational skills, ability to multitask
  • Skills to manage conflicts between individuals and groups
  • High level of adaptability
  • Ability to concurrently lead or coordinate multiple and diverse projects
  • Ability to build and utilize professional relationships to meet objectives

 

Team Lead Skills

  • Knowledge and skill to lead a team, motivate staff, encourage and empower staff to lead great programming and create a welcoming space for all youth
  • Ability to implement integrated service delivery program models and approaches
  • Monitoring and evaluating programs and staff performance
