Description

The Northwest Territories/ Nunavut Council of Friendship Centres (NT/NU CFC) is looking for a Project Coordinator to coordinate the UPIP-NWT Working Group on a 2-year term.

Responsibilities of the position include identify and secure funding for projects that strengthen the identity and well-being of Indigenous people in the NWT.

The Project Coordinator reports to the Executive Director. The NT/NU CFC Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the activities of all staff, along with the development and implementation of program evaluation activities, and the ongoing improvement of Program data collection activities, protocols, and processes. The successful candidate will be required to work independently and must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A detailed job description is provided below.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and develop plans to inform Working Group decisions.
  • Work with UPIP-NWT Working Group members to develop proposals that secure funds for agreed to priorities.
  • Help develop proposals with core Indigenous representative organizations who are members of the Working Group.
  • Manage researchers and proposal writers/contractors, as needed.
  • Regularly communicate with Working Group members.
  • Coordinate regular Working Group meetings.
  • Record the proceedings of Working Group meetings and disseminate meeting minutes to Working Group members.
  • Develop proposal writing capacity among Working Group member organizations.
  • Promote the UPIP-NWT Working Group and the benefits of working together (e.g., get program funds into communities to help Indigenous people live well in urban environments).

Qualifications

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Project management experience
  • Excellent track-record of writing successful funding proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and facilitate consensus among Indigenous representative organizations and other community/regional groups with similar interests.
  • Solid understanding of, and support for Indigenous peoples’ and representative organizations’ interests and aspirations.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Able to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and work under pressure
  • A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search will be a condition of the employment offer

The NT/NU CFC is a not-for-profit Indigenous organization located at 5125-48th Street in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. It consists of 8 Friendship Centres located across the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. The NT/NU CFC is governed by an Executive Board. NT/NU CFC’s Constitution formally establishes its structure, purpose, and objectives. It addresses rules and regulations related to the Council’s membership, governance structures, Executive, committees, and Annual General Meetings.

The NT/NU CFC receives Federal and other funding that supports its internal organizational structure. NT/NU CFC currently employs 6 dedicated individuals including an Executive Director who is responsible for the overall management and administration of the organization. The NT/NU CFC offers a flexible, non-traditional work environment in the NT/NU building in downtown Yellowknife and has free parking!
