The City of Yellowknife is currently seeking a qualified individual to assume the position of Pumphouse & Liftstation Tradesperson with the Public Works and Engineering Department.
Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, Water & Sewer, and the Supervisor of Water and Wastewater Disposal, the incumbent is required to perform maintenance, repairs, and conduct a preventative maintenance program for City facilities. These duties include, but are not limited to, carrying out maintenance tasks with other tradespeople and Power Engineers, operational troubleshooting, and various improvement projects. The incumbent may be required to act as the Supervisor of Water and Wastewater Disposal in their absence. This position will also require the successful candidate to participate in an on-call rotation.
A Journeyman Millwright Certification is preferred and an additional certification in welding would be considered an asset, but other trades such as electrical may be considered. Grade 12 or GED and a valid NWT Class 5 Driver's License are required. A Class 2 Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate or a willingness to obtain this within two years is also required. A Class 5 Power Engineering Certificate would also be considered an asset as would experience in the operation and maintenance of pumps, valves, and other related equipment. Extensive experience in the industrial trades is essential, which normally would be acquired through a minimum of three years of experience.
The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive salary range of $80,594.56 - $96,310.65 as well as a comprehensive benefits package that includes monthly housing and vacation travel allowances and a defined benefit pension plan.
