The City of Yellowknife is currently offering an exciting opportunity for the right person to join our highly skilled and devoted crew in its Public Safety Department as a Relief Dispatcher.
Under the general supervision of the Emergency Dispatch Supervisor, the incumbent provides emergency and non-emergency dispatching services for the Fire Division, the Municipal Enforcement Division, and the Public Works Department. This position will require the incumbent to work shifts in a 4 days on, 4 days off schedule. This position is designated as a Relief Dispatcher and is required to work into the shift rotation to replace other dispatchers on leave. This will mean that flexibility in your schedule will be required!
The incumbent must have the aptitude to take emergency calls, operate a radio system, and solicit appropriate information from callers in a professional and sensitive manner in a fast-paced stressful environment. To perform the work, it is also necessary that the incumbent has the aptitude to operate multiple software programs including both FDM CAD and SCADA computerized systems. The Emergency Dispatchers will also be required to have, or be able to attain, the below listed specific vocational qualifications:
- Grade 12 Diploma
- Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD)
- Emergency Fire Dispatching (EFD)
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Level “C”
Please note: all emergency-related qualifications can be attained by the right person through courses taught at the Fire Hall.
The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive salary range of $71,289 - $87,445 and a comprehensive benefits package that includes monthly housing and vacation travel allowances and a defined benefit pension plan.
