Description

The Research and Communications Specialist provides research and communications support, develops research and communicaitons products, and establishes and maintain processes to undertake Hotıì ts'eeda programs and services. A collegial team member who takes initiative and has a desire to learn, the incumbent will provide research, content development, and coordination support and on projects shared between staff.

This junior position is ideal for new and recent graduates seeking to devote their energy to developing their skills working in a decolonized, innovative, and dynamic work environment. Ideal candidates will have a University degree in a related discipline (social sciences and humanities, health and education, physical and natural sciences, communications) and an interest in research, communications, and working with partners across the NWT to support wellness - related initaitives.

Secondments from other governments and organizations, and flexible work options are welcome.

This full-time 35 hours per week, two-year term position has a yearly salary range of $89,000- 100,000, plus benefits.

Qualifications

The Research and Communication Specialist is expected to have the following educational background, work experience and skills: • University degree in a related discipline (Research, Sociology, Health, Indigenous Governance) and related experience in research and communications; or, an equivalent combination of education and related experience • Strong analytical and communication background • Experience in the preparation of presentations and the drafting of written material • Strong analytical and technical skills and dedication to accuracy • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • Ability to take initiative and work with limited direction/minimal supervision • Ability to meet tight timelines, manage a substantial workload, and adjust to changing priorities and deadlines • Willingness to travel • Excellent organizational skills • Ability to effectively present to a variety of groups including citizens, professional, business and community groups • Ability to work with a wide range of community members, representatives of other organizations and members of the media • Knowledge of office computer programs • Ability to communicate effectively in the Tłıchǫ ̨ language is preferred • Familiarity with the Tłıchǫ ̨ language, culture and way of life is preferred

Hotıì ts’eeda is a research support unit hosted by the Tłı̨chǫ Government, and governed primarily by Northwest Territories (NWT) Indigenous Governments. Hotıì ts’eeda connects NWT organizations, and communities with researchers and funding to achieve health research and training goals. It is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
