Description

Foster Family Coalition of the Northwest Territories Respite Worker Job Description Start date: as soon as possible Hours: Flexible work schedule, between 4-40 hours per week Compensation: $24.00/hour Respite Program Many of the youth we support, and their families, benefit from having a trained respite worker to help them through various aspects of their lives. Respite workers are essential to promoting functional families, and they offer the children an opportunity to develop a relationship with another caring adult who can play with them and teach them new things. Responsible for engaging with children and youth and implementing activities that are fun, educational, and therapeutic. Respite workers will be working directly with one or a small group of children in care, who may range in age from newborn to 11 years old. Workers may be asked to work alone or with one other worker, depending on the number of children in the household. ***If willing and able to have a home check done, respite can be offered from within your home. Otherwise, respite will be held at various locations around Yellowknife (caregiver's homes, parks, recreational centres, etc.).

Responsibilities

Duties ● Plan and implement games, activities, or outings ● Always begin work with a safety meeting with the children to talk about hand washing, not touching their face, staying 2 meters from everyone outside, etc. ● Remind all kids to wash hands regularly throughout the day ● Engage with children at all times; be open, communicative, and supportive ● Ensure children are supervised at all times ● Lead activities with enthusiasm and energy ● Respect all spaces in the homes and facilities, and ensures proper care, use, and maintenance of them ● Communicate with supervisor, foster caregivers, or Social Workers as needed ● Ensure all spaces are cleaned and sanitized at the end of each shift

Qualifications

Qualifications ● Must be extremely punctual and reliable ● Strong communication skills (written and verbal) ● Strong organizational skills ● Experience working with children and youth with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, a trauma background, and various behavioral needs ● Enthusiasm and desire to work with children and youth and make a positive impact on their life ● Knowledge of northern First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures DOCUMENT CHECKLIST ❏ Vulnerable Sector check from the RCMP within the past year ❏ Child Protection Records Check (received from all territories, provinces, or countries you have lived in in the last 5 years) ❏ FFCNWT Oath of confidentiality ❏ Caregiver Discipline Agreement and Rules to Follow at the FFCNWT ❏ Confirmation of Safety Precautions * Please ensure that you have provided the above documentation prior to starting work.
