Description
Under the supervision and direction of the ED and as a member of the management team, the manager is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the residential and outreach services offered through Sutherland House, an 8 bed shelter for women and their children experiencing family violence. The manager will ensure good community relations and effective management of facility and programs. The manager will contribute to a healthy team culture amongst staff that enhances collaboration, with a respectful approach to challenging association issues and needs. Sutherland House is located in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories.
This is a full-time management position that involves Human Resources, community involvement and interaction, client support, organization, and overall oversight of the Sutherland House shelter.

Qualifications
- University degree in Social Work or equivalent (work experience in the field is also considered).
- Previous relevant work experiences in a shelter or other residential facility
- Good staff supervision and management skills
- Advanced knowledge of the signs of violence and abuse at an early age and effective interventions.
- Formal training in conflict resolution and non-violent crisis intervention skills.
- Knowledge of physical, psychological and social effects of addictions, mental health/mental health disorders and family violence.
- Knowledge of child and family income maintenance services systems and child protection procedures.
- Knowledge of universal health precautions to protect clients and staff from the transmission of infectious diseases.
- Adherence to best practices working in mental health, addictions and family violence.
- Life skills and recreational programming for high need clients.
- Crisis intervention, mediation and negotiation skills.
