Description

Blachford Lake Lodge is an upscale Northern fly-in wilderness resort, located 100km east of Yellowknife in Canada’s Northwest Territories. In the heart of the Canadian wilderness, the lodge is comprised of 5 lodge rooms and 5 guest cabins. While at the lodge, guests can enjoy a variety of seasonal activities as well as the best Northern Lights viewing in the world. Winter guest activities include, but are not limited to cross country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, hiking, skating, ice fishing, hockey, handicrafts, wildlife tracks, aurora viewing and other winter activities. In the summer guest activities include, but are not limited to fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, shore lunches, fall aurora viewing, and hiking. Though the lodge is remote, this position is based at the lodge’s administration office in Yellowknife.

If you answered yes to all these questions, you are an ideal candidate for the Special Projects Assistant to the owner of Blachford Lake Lodge resort. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a talented, driven, passionate, detail-oriented, and collaborative individual. This position is integral to supporting the work of the organization.

As the Special Projects, you will be acting as a point of contact for phone calls and correspondence, arranging meetings and travel, preparing presentations, reports, correspondence, managing filing systems and liaising with a select potential and current clients.

Responsibilities

Your job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Financial – funding and support applications to both local and federal organizations
  • Proposal applications to both local and federal organizations that support BLL
  • Work closely with Lodge Owner and Marketing Director on new local sales initiatives in an assistant role
  • Educational Travel Sales - Point of contact for various educational organizations to arrange educational programs at BLL
  • Work closely with the Lodge Owner and other staff on the lodge’s overall vision and moving forward in an assistant to the owner role
  • Meeting Logistics – organization and implementation of various meetings and retreats at the lodge
  • Point of Contact - Act as the first point of contact for the Lodge Owner, as required
  • Scheduling - Manage the Lodge Owner’s calendar and personal scheduling
  • Correspondence – both read and written form.

Risk Management:

  • Reflect at all times a commitment to risk management and safety
  • Report any unsafe conditions to the Systems/Operations Manager and follow up to ensure that they are taken care of
  • Always air on the side of caution
  • Demonstrate good skill and safe practice when operating all company equipment

Team Work/Communication:

  • Communicate with all staff on a daily basis about upcoming guests, and groups
  • Resolve team conflict respectfully and effectively

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Business Administration or Tourism-related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Association, local businesses is preferred
  • Proven experience working in tourism industry and a small/medium business.
  • Proficient in computer technology especially Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service and social skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
  • Follows instructions clearly and accurately within a timely fashion.
  • Proactive and enthusiastic about delivering positive results.
  • Knowledge of local Yellowknife + International contacts in Small Business (Tourism) community and NWT Government
