Description

This position is a key member of the Street Outreach Program – a safe ride partnership between the Yellowknife Women’s Society and the City of Yellowknife. The Yellowknife Women’s Society is a non-profit charitable society with a mandate to support the social, cultural and economic autonomy of northern women and their families.

The Street Outreach Coordinator is responsible for all operational aspects related to the Yellowknife Street Outreach program, as well as for supporting the reporting responsibilities of the executive director.

 

Responsibilities

The Street Outreach Coordinator works to ensure that the program is:

  • trauma-informed
  • strengths-based
  • harm reduction focused
  • understanding of homelessness, abuse/violence, mental health issues, addictions, and other problems

Through mutual respect and conflict resolution, a safe and welcoming environment is maintained.

• Human resource goals/objectives

• Team orientation and training goals

• Team building and staff recognition

• Data collection and service provision

• Monitoring staff activities including health and safety

• Volunteer coordination

Qualifications

● A degree in social work, traditional Indigenous Counselling or related degree (e.g. psychology, occupational therapy). Graduate degree preferred ● Five (5) years post-graduate experience, with (3) years supervisory experience preferred ● Excellent judgment and de-escalation skills ● Strong leadership and human resources skills ● Excellent oral and written communications skills, as well as computer literacy in Word and Excel ● Previous experience working with individuals with histories of substance abuse, mental health issues and/or trauma; experience working with homeless individuals ● Awareness of the history of colonialism and the legacy and impact of residential schools ● The ability to work independently and to motivate others, to cope with crisis situations, and to work flexible hours in a changing environment ● Previous experience working with individuals with histories of substance abuse, mental health issues and/or trauma; experience working with homeless individuals ● A flexible, positive, team-based and solution-oriented approach to work and to leadership ● A solid understanding of harm reduction as a philosophy and practice; an understanding of social determinants of health and social justice issues ● Valid Driver’s License (driver’s abstract to be provided) ● First Aid training (up-to-date) ● Immunizations (up-to-date) ● Conflict Resolution, Mental Health First Aid, suicide intervention considered an assist
