Program : Communities Building Youth Futures Yellowknife (CBYF YK) Project Position Type/length of position : Internship / 4 months (May 1 - August 31, 2023) Role Title : Summer Youth Intern Hours of Work : 30hr/week Reports To : Project Coordinator Hourly or Salary : $30/hour Location : Yellowknife, NT Pay Period : Bi-weekly

Role summary The Summer Youth Intern is responsible for leading a project that aligns with CBYF YK priorities and addresses a community issue in areas such as (but not limited to): education, language and culture, art, environmental conservation, community development, youth engagement, health and wellness, or poverty reduction.

The Summer Youth Intern must demonstrate a dedication to the project and the position as well as a willingness to learn. The Summer Youth Intern will require a combination of communication, leadership, organization, planning, and administrative skills for effective project implementation.

Eligibility ● As per Collaboration Agreement terms, applicants must be within the ages of 15 to 30 years. ● Reside in the Yellowknife, Dettah or Ndilǫ areas for the duration of the employment period. ● Interested applicants from outside the immediate Yellowknife areas must either relocate to Yellowknife or have reliable transportation to make the daily commute. ○ This is not a remote position. ● Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and legally entitled to work in Canada. ○ Proof of Visa will be required ● The applicant must be able to ○ Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends ○ Commit to a minimum of 30 and to a maximum of 40 hours per week ● Must be comfortable working in an office and community setting both independently and as a member of a team or group. ● Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector check), if over the age of eighteen (18).

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities and Duties: ● Identify a community issue and conduct an issue analysis. ● Develop a project work plan/action plan. ● Develop a project evaluation plan. ● Support in project reports. ● Host community engagement activities relevant to your project. ● Coordinate and facilitate community partnerships and collaborations to support your project. ● Attend and participate in relevant Tamarack meetings, workshops and webinars. ● Attend and participate in relevant CBYF YK meetings/gatherings. ● Send out communications (e.g. email, phone calls, quote inquiries). ● Assist and support with general CBYF YK community engagement and outreach activities.

Qualifications

Position Skills and Competencies: ● Familiar with social media and account moderation. ● Familiarity and ease working with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office; e.g. Gmail, Google Drive Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, etc. ● Decision making and problem solving skills; demonstrates effective conflict resolution skills. ● Displays interpersonal skills, works well with others and individually. ● Actively supporting the mission, vision and goals of the CBYF Project. ● Demonstrates organizational and time management skills. ● Demonstrates reflective practice and critical thinking skills. ● Willingness to comply with regulatory and professional expectations ● Willingness to learn new skills and gain new knowledge. ● Possesses cultural awareness and sensitivity.
