The City of Yellowknife is currently seeking an enthusiastic, professional, and motivated individual to assume the position of Supervisor for the Solid Waste Facility. Under the general direction of the Manager, Sustainability and Solid Waste, the incumbent supervises employees and is responsible for the daily and weekly operations of the division, which includes direct supervision of employees and ensuring that the landfill operations and closure plans are maintained. As a working supervisor, the incumbent performs and supervises maintenance and administers a maintenance program for the Solid Waste Facility and all equipment used at the site, including but not limited to, dozers, loaders, skid steers, compactors, and balers.
The incumbent must be able to demonstrate the following skills: the ability to receive instruction, pre-plan jobs, and translate them into specific instructions for the crew members; troubleshooting and decision-making skills; ability to manage the logistics for proper planning of work; performing time and cost estimates; ability to operate a computerized control system and the ability to implement and maintain a preventive maintenance schedule with the aid of a computer-generated work order system.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in the industrial/mechanical field with a general knowledge and experience in the maintenance of heavy equipment, conducting minor electrical repairs, and welding is required. In addition, the incumbent must have a minimum of 2 years supervising a crew. The incumbent also requires a Class 3 N.W.T. Driver's License with air endorsement, a Landfill Operators Certificate, and Hazardous Waste Management Certificate. Journeyman Certification as an Equipment Operator and/or Millwright is preferred.
This position has a salary range of $86,456 - $104,260 and a comprehensive benefits package including housing and vacation travel allowances totaling $450 a month, a defined benefit pension plan, and relocation assistance.
