We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for the right person to join and work alongside the dedicated and community focused team of professionals in its Economic Development and Strategy Department as a Communications Officer on a 12-month term basis.

Responsibilities

Under the general direction of the Manager, Economic Development and Strategy, the incumbent supports the City in the implementation of communications plans, policies, procedures and programs to ensure that communications are consistent with City of Yellowknife guidelines.   The Communications Officer provides communications advice and support on the web, social media, publications, communications planning and media relations to City departments.

Qualifications

 

This position requires a degree in a Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field plus a minimum of one (1) year of related experience, which should include community engagement within a government or dynamic corporate environment.  The position requires a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain co-operative and constructive relationships with individuals at all levels of organizations. Expert knowledge of best practices in strategic communications planning, public relations and media relations is essential, as are excellent writing, editing and verbal communication skills. You must be able to work under pressure and manage projects with tight timeframes and strict deadlines.

 

The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive salary, a comprehensive benefit package including a $450.00 monthly housing and travel allowance and a Defined Benefit Pension Plan.
