Labour Market Supplement

A recruitment and retention supplement will be offered to front line Nurse, Nurse Practitioner and Midwifery positions within the Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority and the Tlicho Community Services Agency.   The successful incumbent will receive a $7000 supplement upon hire and an additional $7000 supplement after completion of 12 months of continuous employment contingent on remaining employed in an eligible position for a further 12 months.   This is a taxable benefit and will be subject to applicable deductions.

Job Information

With a population of just under 300, the quaint, tight-knit community of Gamètì is nestled between two of the largest lakes in Canada; Great Slave Lake and Great Bear Lake. Gamètì is a community that prides itself on continuing traditional knowledge and practices - the area is a traditional hunting ground for the Tlicho and Sahtu Dene peoples and intricate beading crafts are found at craft sales as well as taught and shared between community members. 
Daily flights are available to and from the Territory’s capital city Yellowknife and a winter road is available during the colder months. Experience the Tlicho region of the Northwest Territories by experiencing the intimate cultural and historical community of Gamètì!  

Located within the Gameti Health Centre and reporting directly to the TCSA Manager of Health Services in Behchoko, the Nurse in Charge (NIC) will manage how the community health programs are provided to a client population of approximately 300 residents. The Health Centre is the sole medical facility in the community. 

Gameti Community Health Programs are provided by the NIC and 1 Community Health Nurse who reports directly to the NIC. Programs include but are not limited to providing non­emergency medical care; responding to medical crisis that requires decision making outside of the usual policies, procedures and standards of nursing care; providing emergency response in collaboration with the Medical Travel department and delivering nursing programs designed to promote community health and wellness (i.e. including but not limited to well-child/woman/man clinics, pre and post-natal clinics, school health program, chronic disease program, immunization programs, communicable disease surveillance and treatment, the home care program etc.). The provision of emergency services is supported by a physician via the telephone when communications links are available. 

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

A successful completion of a Bachelor of Nursing Degree is required, 5 years recent nursing experience with at least 1 year in a northern health centre and at least 1 year of supervisory experience.

Salary Information

The salary for the Nurse in Charge position starts at $56.29 per hour (approximately $109,766 per annum) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $17,029.
