Department Information

The Department of Executive and Indigenous Affairs works to provide overall management and direction to the Executive branch of the Government of the Northwest Territories. The Department is responsible for:  coordinating and supporting the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of initiatives and actions in support of cross-government goals The Department is responsible for ensuring mutually respectful intergovernmental relations between the territorial government and Aboriginal, provincial, territorial and national and international governments are maintained; along with negotiating and implementing land, resources And self-government agreements that address Aboriginal rights in the Northwest Territories.

Job Information

In the role of Senior Communications Officer, you will be a part of the Cabinet Communications team within the Department of Executive & Indigenous Affairs. In this pivotal role, you will guide strategic communication initiatives and serve as a part of the communications team advising Ministers, shaping political communications, engaging with media relations and supporting issues and crisis management. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence and contribute to high-level decision-making processes directly impacting residents and stakeholders.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by: The Senior Communications Advisor will have the theoretical knowledge typically obtained with a degree in communications, public relations, political science, public administration or a relevant field, and five to seven years of progressive communications experience. Communications experience within the GNWT, or experience in management positions, is considered an asset.
