Responsibilities
As someone who supports our programming activities, you are adept at understanding client needs and designing and implementing creative solutions. You take interest in anticipating future trends and strive to keep us at the forefront of broadcast technology – all to ensure we can deliver our programming to our audiences how, when and where they want it.
In the role of Associate Director, your primary objective is to organize and contribute to the preparation, production and post production of the two daily television broadcasts of CBC North. In this position, there is a regular requirement for independent judgment and initiative. At the same time, there is a high requirement for accuracy and attention to detail as well as the coordination of the activities of others.
You will demonstrate success in your role by preparing line-ups/rundowns and other required paperwork, and assisting in the presentation of scripts. You are required to screen and time segments and whole programs noting necessary information, ensuring needed revisions are made in line-ups and scripts, and informing all affected personnel of any changes. You direct performers and crew members during live and recorded productions, based on instructions received from the Producer or Switcher/Director. You accurately time live shows and ensure that the producer and all other interested parties know whether the show is running on time.
There is also a requirement to act as a Media Librarian where you will catalogue and shot list news items, select, preserve, retain, research and manage audio and audiovisual documents in accordance with the rules and principles of library and information sciences and with corporate standards and policies.
Qualifications
- Graduation from Community College with a diploma in Radio and Television Arts or the equivalent.
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience, either in the CBC or elsewhere in the industry.
- Knowledge of Avid editing systems.
- Knowledge of iNews and CBC production tools.
- Experience directing would be an asset.
- Ability to maintain a cataloguing system to manage library material and the circulation of materials.
- Capable of preparing detailed summaries of the content of programs and/or library holdings.
- Operates equipment required to perform library tasks.
- Ability to screen broadcast material and select stock footage, prepare shot lists, classify and index material.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a deadline driven environment where there are multiple deadlines and priorities each and every day.
- Strong communication skills; oral and written.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong computer skills.
