Description
The Yellowknives Dene First Nation (YKDFN) is governed by a Chief and Council which has offices in Dettah and Ndilo. The YKDFN Chiefs and Council affirm our sacred obligation to serve our people and our commitment to live balanced contemporary lifestyles with culture and traditions important to our community, to speak our traditional language and to protect our natural resources and treaty rights. For Chiefs and Council to lead the YKDFN requires having qualified personnel to achieve a prosperous future for our citizens. The incumbent works within this context to provide effective and efficient level of support and assistance.
The incumbent is an integral part of the YKDFN Health and Wellness team and is responsible for supporting children and youths between the ages of 6 to 19 years, and their families to provide personal support services to encourage and achieve individual educational goals. The position will also work collaboratively with other YKDFN departments and other groups to promote academic growth among our young people. Responsibilities
Under the authority of Yellowknives Dene First Nation Government Chief and Council, and under the direct supervision of the Director, Community Wellness, the Child and Youth Assistant Manager is responsible for, but not limited to, taking the lead of a Child and Youth Team, a short-term and long-term vision is developed to recognize and foster personal growth, empowerment, and academic success in YKDFN children and youth. The visions support the holistic goals and program development of future education, achieved through effective designed programming and collaborative efforts along with appropriate advocation for our YKDFN Children and Youth. in areas of academic, tutoring, child and youth supports programming. The Community Wellness Division consists of positive holistic family wellness, community wellness, counselling program to better serve the Yellowknives Dene First Nation members. This position is located in Ndilo, with periodic travel to Dettah and City of Yellowknife, Monday to Friday.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for this position will have completed post-secondary education in the field of Social Work, Personal Support Worker or Human Services with a minimum of two (2) years’ work-related experience; and or an equivalent combination education and relevant training coupled with four (4) years related work experience will be considered. The candidate must be able to work with minimal supervision and interact with individuals of all levels in a friendly yet professional manner.
Knowledge and/or experience with cultural history and customs of the Wiiliideh people and previous experience in working with First Nations organizations are all definite assets.
