Your role

The Senior Manager of Productions Services, Media Production for CBC North is a key part of the leadership team where you will plan, develop and recommend short and long-range operational and workflow goals and objectives to support the content-creation requirements and overall objectives for the region.

With a focus on leading change, collaboration, inspiring and developing staff, creating an inclusive, diverse and creative work culture, and continuous improvement, you will provide specialized technical and production guidance to program and content areas. This includes managing staff, physical assets and building management.

Based in Yellowknife and reporting to the Senior Managing Director, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and directing staff and physical resources. You will also ensure that the region's technical infrastructure and production resources comply with industry and CBC/ Radio-Canada standards, and use them effectively in executing daily content production.

Responsibilities

Key tasks:
  • In collaboration with the Senior Managing Director and the CBC North leadership team, ensures that the goals and tactics of the North Strategy are fully realized - including the visual/video strategy for the Region of the three territories and Nunavik.
  • Manages the daily operations of content production. Ensures adherence to CBC technical and production standards, journalistic, HR, Health and Safety and Finance policy standards.
  • Leads stakeholders to conceive, analyze and develop production methods and processes for meeting established and future content production requirements.
  • Supervises and directs all Production Services and Technology Services teams in collaboration with the Senior Managing Director.
  • Develops training, development and succession planning for Production Services and Technology Services staff while ensuring all program platforms are supported and maintained. Conducts regular feedback and performance reviews with staff.
  • Keeps up-to-date on technology, workflow and audience consumption with content in the digital, radio and television platforms. Determines requirements and ensures implementation of facilities and equipment to facilitate daily and long term content production.
  • Primary liaison with real estate and, as needed, building management landlords to ensure a safe, suitable, and supportive work environment.
  • Co-Chair local Health and Safety Committee and create a culture of safety, security, risk assessing and accountability.
  • Working with the finance manager and the leadership team, assists in evaluating and developing yearly budgets and forecasts, tracks, controls and authorizes expenditures within predetermined limits.
  • Establish and maintain close partnerships with the various content creation lines, with a view to providing tailored, effective services.
  • Develops close working relationships with regional, network and French Services members to maximize coordination of resources.
  • Develops close working relationships with other senior managers of production services in the North region to surface and explore shared challenges and opportunities.
  • Clearly conveys organizational priorities to employees and partners.
  • Plans and implements internal and field content production for assigned departments.
  • Advises production teams and partners on the various production processes and resources, and on monitoring adherence to production standards.
  • Works jointly and confidentially with other managers, human resources and unions on various projects, committees, labor issues and contingency plans.

Qualifications

  • Strong ability to analyze, understand and conceive workflow, process, teams and systems with a focus on resource optimization.
  • Strong understanding of media, digital and broadcast production and technologies.
  • Ability to develop, plan, communicate and implement strategy with a focus on change management.
  • Demonstrated group facilitation and people management skills.
  • Experience leading in a unionized work environment.
  • Familiarity interpreting collective agreements.
  • Demonstrated tact, diplomacy and good judgment with internal and external business partners.
  • Proven budgetary management experience.
  • Able to manage multiple projects and priorities with very tight deadlines.
  • Willing to travel.
  • Able to make fair, effective decisions quickly.
  • Able to work on weekends as required.
  • Five years of leadership and staff management experience.
  • Ten years' experience in the content production or related field.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada's insurance company.
