We are currently seeking an employee to join our Roads and Sidewalks Division as a Works Maintainer. This position works under the general direction of the Superintendent and the Supervisor, Roads & Sidewalks Division. Daily duties will include assisting in the repair and maintenance of mobile and stationary street signs, roads, sidewalks and storm sewers. You will also operate a tandem truck and other small equipment as required.

This position requires knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and rudimentary mechanics. The ability to operate mobile equipment such as a loader, tandem dump truck, sand truck, skid steer (bobcat), roller packer, mini-excavator and dump box trucks along with the knowledge and experience operating motorized equipment such as chain saws, lawn mowers, whipper snippers, brush cutters, generator, high pressure and temperature thawing equipment, jumping jack packers and plate tampers. This position requires the incumbent to have the ability to safely operate motorized equipment in highly public and congested areas for various tasks such as snow removal activities. The incumbent requires a valid Class 3 (with air endorsement) NWT Driver’s License and a minimum of 2 years related experience. You must be mechanically inclined and have a strong knowledge in the use and operation of various gas and power tools.  Grade 12 or equivalent is also required.

The City of Yellowknife offers an attractive salary range of $66,966.57 - $78,543.00 plus a comprehensive benefits package including both monthly housing and vacation travel allowances, and a defined benefit pension plan.
