Salary: $21.88 to $25.00 hourly for 40 hours per week

 

Terms of employment: Permanent employment, Full time

 

Employment conditions: Day, Evening, Weekend, Early Morning, Morning

 

Start date: As soon as possible

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Languages: English

 

Education: Bachelor's degree

 

Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years

 

Work Site Environment: Organic farming

 

Work Setting: Remote location, Rural area

 

Specific Skills/Tasks:

  • Handling animals
  • Manage overall operation of farm
  • Organize and co-ordinate planting, cultivating and crop harvesting activities; raising and breeding of livestock and poultry
  • Determine the amount and kinds of crops to be grown and livestock to be raised
  • Establish marketing programs
  • Maintain financial and production records
  • Recruit, hire and supervise staff and/or volunteers

 

Supervision: 3-4 people

 

Type of Product: Native plants

 

Type of Crops: Blueberries, Tomatoes, Worms

 

Equipment and Machinery Experience: Automated irrigation system

Security and Safety: Driver's validity licence check

 

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Attention to detail, Fast-paced environment, Large workload, Tight deadlines, Work under pressure

 

Personal Suitability: Effective interpersonal skills, Excellent oral communication, Excellent written communication, Flexibility, Initiative, Judgement, Organized, Team player, Values and ethics

 

Main duties of the job

  • Manage the farm and greenhouse (including hydroponic greenhouse, vegetables and life stock)
  • Manage the in-town storefront including the transport of produce for sale
  • Manage fishery and woodworking yard
  • General bookkeeping
  • Some sled dog handling and training
  • Manage tour groups/tourism side of eco-village

Experience required to complete the job duties

  • Education in business administration or similar (minimum education: bachelor's degree)
  • Experience in facilitating Arctic tourism
  • General bookkeeping and business admin experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Experience managing employees
  • Experience working on a farm
  • Experience at an eco-tourism destination
  • Product and inventory management experience
  • Experience with sales and asset

Skills required to complete the job duties

  • Valid driver's license
  • Language skills (particularly English, 2nd language is an asset)
  • Ability to take initiative and learn on the job
  • Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Ability to time manage and prioritize in stressful situations
